They Publicly Humiliated Her… Then Six Men Walked In and Everything Changed

Part 2

And by Monday morning…

…the Morrison name would never carry the same power again.

Elena didn’t wipe the filthy water from her face.

She let it drip.

Every cold drop reminded her of the woman she used to be.

The woman who apologized for things that weren’t her fault.

The woman who begged for scraps of affection.

The woman who believed love meant endurance.

That woman was gone.

“Well?” Derek smirked, straightening his tuxedo. “Are you going to stand there all night looking pathetic?”

The guests laughed again.

Vanessa leaned into his shoulder.

“I almost feel bad for her,” she said loudly enough for everyone to hear. “Almost.”

Patricia Morrison raised her champagne glass.

“Perhaps someone should call housekeeping.”

Another burst of laughter echoed beneath the crystal chandeliers.

Elena finally spoke.

“Are you all finished?”

Her voice wasn’t loud.

But it was calm.

Too calm.

The laughter slowly faded.

Derek frowned.

That wasn’t the reaction he expected.

Normally Elena cried.

Tonight…

She was smiling.

A tiny smile.

One that unsettled him more than anger ever could.

“You’ve changed,” he muttered.

“No,” Elena replied.

“I’ve finally woken up.”

Three months earlier…

She had received a phone call from an unfamiliar New York number.

“Mrs. Elena Morrison?”

“Speaking.”

“My name is Jonathan Pierce. I’m an attorney with Sterling & Roth.”

“I’m sorry, I think you’ve got the wrong person.”

“I assure you I don’t.”

She almost hung up.

Until he spoke one sentence.

“I’m calling regarding the estate of Alexander Sterling.”

The name meant nothing to her.

“I’m afraid I don’t know anyone by that name.”

There was silence.

Then the lawyer sighed.

“He was your biological father.”

The world stopped.

Two days later…

Elena sat alone inside a private conference room overlooking Manhattan.

The lawyer placed an old wooden box on the table.

“It was his final request.”

Inside…

Hundreds of handwritten letters.

Every birthday she had missed.

Every Christmas.

Every graduation.

Every milestone.

Letters addressed…

To her.

The earliest was dated twenty-six years ago.

My dearest Elena,

Today you turn one.

I don’t know where you are.
But I promise you…
I will never stop looking.

Her hands trembled.

Another letter.

Happy tenth birthday.

They told me the adoption records were sealed.
I don’t believe them.
Somewhere…
You’re waiting for me.

Another.

If you’re reading this…

Then I found you too late.

Tears blurred the ink.

The lawyer quietly slid another document across the table.

It was Alexander Sterling’s final will.

Estate value:

$1.2 trillion.

Elena stared at the number.

“It… this has to be a mistake.”

“It isn’t.”

“He left… all of this…”

The lawyer nodded.

“To his only child.”

Back in the ballroom…

Derek checked his watch impatiently.

“Security.”

Two guards immediately stepped forward.

“I want my wife escorted out.”

One guard approached Elena politely.

“Ma’am…”

Before he could finish…

The ballroom doors opened.

Every conversation stopped.

Six men in black suits entered first.

Behind them came a distinguished silver-haired gentleman carrying a slim leather briefcase.

The room fell silent.

Derek frowned.

“Who the hell are you?”

The older man ignored him completely.

Instead…

He walked straight toward Elena.

Then, to everyone’s astonishment…

He bowed his head.

“Miss Sterling…”

His voice echoed across the silent ballroom.

“I sincerely apologize for arriving later than instructed.”

He handed her the leather folder.

“The Board of Sterling Global has gathered.”

“They are waiting for their Chairwoman.”

Every face in the room turned white.

And for the first time that evening…

No one laughed.
