Rich Family Rejected Their Son’s Poor Fiancée, Until Her Real Father Arrived With Bodyguards

PART 2:

The golden lines represent light, wisdom, and the order that can come out of confusion. Even the  butterfly and the bright gateway show change, hope, and a journey into something greater.” Jidenna looked back  at the painting. Suddenly, the artwork felt even more alive. “It is not just a beautiful painting,” she said.

“It feels like someone turning pain, dreams, and hidden thoughts into something powerful.” Jidenna was surprised. He had always loved  art, but the way she explained the painting made him see it in a deeper way. She spoke calmly,  but every word carried meaning. “How do you know so much about this  piece?” he asked. “Are you an attendant here?” The lady turned to him and smiled.

“No,”    she said. “I don’t work here. I’m just an artist. I come here often. I saw that you were interested in the painting, so I thought I should share what I understood about it. Jidenna smiled. “No wonder.” he said. “I love this piece already.” He was already interested in buying  it. He quickly brought out a small notepad and pen, then wrote down the information beside the painting.

He wrote the artist’s  name, the title of the work, and the other details. After that, he turned to the lady again. “I’m Jidenna.” he said, stretching out his hand. The lady accepted the handshake and smiled. “I’m Chidera.” she said. “Chidera Ekoja.” The moment Jidenna heard the name, he looked down at his notepad again.

Then he saw it. “Chidera Ekoja.” That was the same name written beside the painting. For a moment, he just stared at the  notepad. Then he looked at her again with clear surprise on his face. “Wow.” he said. “So you made this?” Chidera smiled humbly. “Yes.”    she replied. Jidenna looked at the painting again, then back at her.

“That explains everything.”    he said. “No wonder you understood it so deeply.” Chidera smiled,  but she did not act proud. “I’m glad you like it.” she said. “I genuinely love it.” Jidenna said.  “I’m going to buy this painting.” Chidera looked happy, though she tried to remain calm. Then  an idea came to Jidenna’s mind.

“Miss Chidera.” he said. “Please, I need your help with something.” Chidera looked at him curiously. “What is it?” she asked. Jidenna glanced around the gallery. “My company just completed the construction of a hotel.” he said. “It is a luxury hotel, so I need many beautiful artworks for the interior. I love art, but I don’t  fully understand how to choose the best pieces for a large hotel space.

Chidera listened with interest. I don’t want  to just buy artworks because they look expensive. Jidenna said, I want them to fit the hotel. I want the paintings and sculptures to make the place feel special. It would mean a lot if you could help me select the right pieces. Chidera smiled. I would be glad to help, she said.

Jidenna looked relieved. Thank you, he said. You have already saved  me from making many wrong choices. Chidera smiled again. Just like that, they began walking around the gallery together. As they moved from one section to another, Chidera explained some of the artworks to him. She told him which pieces would be good for a reception area, which ones would fit a hallway, and which ones would be better for quiet spaces where guests  could sit and relax.

This one would look good in a waiting area, she said. It is calm, but it still has something that draws attention. Jidenna looked at  the painting and wrote it down. And this one? He asked. That one can work in a hallway, she said. People may not stand there for long, but as they pass,  it will catch their attention.

Jidenna listened carefully. The more Chidera spoke,  the more impressed he became. She did not just talk about art like decoration. She talked about it like something that could  change how a person felt inside a room. After some time, they had selected several artworks. The hotel was large, so Jidenna knew he would still need more pieces later.

But for that day, the ones they had selected were some of the most beautiful in the gallery. He turned to Chidera with gratitude. Thank you so much, he said. On a normal day, I would have spent hours here and still struggled to choose only a few. “I’m glad I could help.” Chidera said. Jidenna looked at her for a moment.

“Can I have your contact?” he asked. “I may need your help again.” Chidera reached into her purse and brought out her complimentary card. Jidenna happily accepted it. Her phone number and the address of her art studio were written on it. After they exchanged a few more words, Jidenna went to meet one of the gallery staff members.

“Good afternoon.” he said.    “I’m sourcing artworks for a hotel interior project. I’ve walked through the exhibition and shortlisted several pieces I would like to purchase. Is the gallery director or a senior consultant available to review the selection with me?” The staff member quickly  led him to the director’s office.

After speaking with the gallery director and completing the payment, the selected pieces were reserved for him. Since the pieces were many, Jidenna told the director that he would send his driver to pick them up later.  After everything was settled, he left the gallery. But as Jidenna left, Chidera stayed in his mind.

There was something about her talent, her calmness, and the way she spoke that he could not easily forget. A few days later, Jidenna was sitting in his office when another idea came  to him. Instead of always returning to the gallery whenever he needed more artworks, he could visit Chidera’s studio  directly.

That way, he could see more of her available pieces and buy directly from her. It was easier. And somehow, he wanted  to see her again. He picked up his phone, took Chidera’s complimentary card, and called her. At her studio, Chidera’s phone rang. When she saw Jidenna’s name on the screen, she became a little surprised, but a smile came to her face.

She answered the call. “Good afternoon, Chidera.” Jidenna said, “I hope I’m not disturbing you.” “No, not at all.” she said. “Good afternoon.” “I still need more artworks for the hotel.” he said.    “I was wondering if I could come to your studio and see the pieces you have available.” Chidera  smiled.

“I would be pleased to do business with you.” she said. They agreed on a day. A few days  later, Jidenna visited Chidera’s art studio. The studio was small but beautiful. The walls were full of lovely paintings. Some were finished while some were still in progress. The place  showed that Chidera was gifted.

But it also showed that she was managing with the little she had. Jidenna walked around slowly admiring  the paintings one after another. “This is beautiful.” he said. “Thank  you.” Chidera replied. As he moved around, Chidera explained each painting and its meaning to him. The way she spoke made him even more curious about her.

He had always loved art but he had never really spent time with  an artist in her own space. Seeing Chidera explain her work with so much feeling made him want to know more about her. What touched him most  was not only her talent. It was the way she spoke without pride even when it was clear that she was very gifted.

Chidera also admired the way  Jidenna appreciated art. He listened. He asked questions. He did not make her feel small because he was rich. He treated her work with respect. Later, they discussed the artworks  he wanted to buy. Chidera gave him the total cost and Jidenna made the payment. He told her that  his driver would come later to pick up the pieces.

Before he left, he looked at her and smiled. “Your work is  really special.” he said. “Thank you.” Chidera said. “That means a lot.” After that day, something had started growing between them. Neither of them fully understood it yet,  but it was there. A few days later, Chidena found himself thinking about Chidera.

Something about her made him forget the pressure that came with  being the new CEO of Ortega Hotel Group. Most of their conversations had been about art,    but talking to her made him feel different. Soon, he started looking for reasons to speak with her again. One day,  he took his phone and called her.

Back at the art studio, Chidera’s phone rang. When she saw Chidena’s name, a smile appeared on her face. She did not even know why she felt happy that he was calling. She quickly  picked up. “Good afternoon, Chidena.” she said. “Good afternoon, Chidera.” he replied. “How are you?” “I’m fine.” she said.

“How is work?” “Busy as always.” he said. “But I actually need your help with something and it is a lot. I don’t even know how to ask.” Chidera smiled. “What is it?” she asked.  Chidena paused for a moment. “The artworks are many.” he said. “And I’m confused about where each piece should be placed in the hotel.

My contract  with the interior designer has already ended. I could call her back, but honestly, I feel you would do a better job.” Chidera became quiet for a short moment. “You want me to help with the arrangement?” she asked. “Yes.” Chidena  said. “You will not have to do any heavy work. We will only guide the people arranging the artworks and tell them where each piece should go.

” Then Chidena added.  “And of course, I will compensate you for your service.” Chidera laughed lightly. “You don’t have to do that,”    she said. “I would be glad to help.” Jidenna smiled. “Thank you,  Chidera,” he said. “I really appreciate it.” They talked a little more about work and life, then discussed the details of when they would go to the hotel.

After the call ended, both of them felt strangely happy. Days later, Jidenna came to Chidera’s studio to pick her up in his car. Soon, they arrived at the hotel. The building was large and beautiful.  Workers were still moving around, putting final things in place. Chidera looked around and quickly  understood why Jidenna needed help.

There were many spaces, and each artwork had to be placed carefully. As planned,  Chidera created a simple arrangement plan for the artworks. After that, they began supervising the workers as the pieces were fixed around the hotel. “This painting should be placed here,”    Chidera said.

“It will be one of the first things guests see when they enter.” Jidenna looked at the wall. “You are right,” he said. “It fits perfectly.” They moved from one place to another, guiding the workers and checking each space. While they supervised, they talked. This time, they did not speak only about art.

They started asking questions about each other.    Their conversation became easy and natural. “So, have you always wanted to be an artist?”  Jidenna asked. “Yes,” Chidera said. “I have loved art since I was little. It was one of the few things that made me feel  free.” Jidenna listened closely. “That explains why your work has so much feeling,” he said.

Chidera looked at  him and smiled. “What about you?” she asked. “Did you always want to run the family business?” Jidenna  was quiet for a moment. “I knew it might happen one day,” he said, “but carrying it is not easy. Sometimes  people see the title, but they don’t see the pressure behind it.

” Chidera understood him. From that day, they slowly became closer. Because the artworks were many, they scheduled specific days to visit the hotel and supervise the arrangement. Meeting each other soon became their favorite part of the week. Jidenna looked  forward to seeing Chidera. Chidera also looked forward to seeing him. They laughed more.

They talked more. They became  comfortable around each other. With time, it became clear to both of them that they were  gradually falling in love. One day, after thinking deeply about his feelings, Jidenna decided  to call her. When Chidera picked up, she sounded happy to hear from him. After they exchanged pleasantries, Jidenna went quiet for a moment.

“Chidera,” he said, “would you like to go out with me?” There was a brief  pause. Chidera was surprised, but deep inside she was happy that he had asked. “Yes,” she said, “I would like that.” A few days later, they met at a restaurant.  That day, Jidenna opened his heart to her. “Chidera, I want to be  honest with you,” he said.

“When I first met you at the gallery, I only wanted  to buy artworks, but the more I got to know you, the more I realized that you are different. I’ve developed strong feelings for you, and I’m not playing games.  I want something serious with you.” Chidera looked at him quietly. She was touched by his words.

“I also feel something for you,” she said. “I just did not  know if you felt the same way.” Jidenna smiled. “I do,” he said. That evening, they agreed to begin a relationship. In the days that followed, they became closer. They were happy together and soon the love they had for each other  became strong.

But unknown to Chidera, something was coming her way. Something she was not prepared for. Something that would test her love and shake the relationship she was building with Chidera. Soon, the artworks were fully arranged in  the important parts of the hotel. The reception area looked different.

The walls no longer looked empty. The paintings sat beautifully in their places and each  piece gave the hotel a new kind of life. Chidera stood in the reception area looking around with quiet  satisfaction. He remembered the first day he walked into the gallery. He remembered stopping in front of Alchemy of Dreams.

He remembered  Chidera standing beside it, explaining the painting like someone who had put her whole heart into it. Now, as he looked at the hotel,    he knew he had made the right choice by asking for her help. Just then, the reception door opened. Mrs. Ortega Adoka, Chidera’s mother, walked in. The moment she entered,    she stopped and looked around at the paintings and sculptures.

Then she saw Chidera standing nearby and  walked toward him. “This is beautiful.” She said. Chidera smiled.  “I know.” He replied. Mrs. Adoka looked around again. She knew her son very well. She knew he loved art. She even remembered the day he told her he was going to the gallery to get artworks for the hotel.

But she also knew Chidera was too busy to arrange everything this well by himself. She looked at him closely. “Chidera, I know you love art.” She said. “But you could not have done all this by yourself.”  Chidera smiled because he knew there was no need to hide it. “I had help.” He said. “Her name is Chidera.” The moment he mentioned her name, his voice changed a  little. Mrs.

Adoka noticed it. “Chidera?” She asked. “Yes, Mom.” Chidena said. “She’s very talented. She helped me choose some of the pieces and she also helped with the arrangement.” He did not even know when he started saying more than he planned. “She understands art in a way I’ve not seen before.”    He said.

“She speaks with so much meaning. She smiles in a way that makes you feel calm and she does not carry herself with pride.” Mrs. Adoka’s smile slowly faded. Then Chidena said what was truly in his heart. “Mom, I think I’m in love with her.” The silence that followed was heavy. Mrs. Adoka’s face changed at once. “Chidena.” She said slowly.

“Have you forgotten the marriage arrangement between you and Chiluchi?”  Chidena’s smile disappeared. “She is the daughter of Mr. Tokenboar.” His mother continued. “Your father’s business partner.  The biggest investor in this company.” Chidena looked away for a moment. He knew exactly what she meant.

There had been serious trouble within Ortega Hotel Group. His family owned a large part of the company, but they did not own everything. Other shareholders also had power and their decisions mattered. Unknown to many people, a powerful businessman named  Mr. Ayuba had been quietly buying shares from some of those shareholders.

Little by little, he was gaining power inside the company. Now he was trying to turn some board members against Chidena. His plan was to remove Chidena as CEO so he could put someone he could control in that position. For years, Mr. Tokenboar’s support had helped Chidena’s  family stay strong in the company. But recently, Mr.

Tokenboar had started threatening to withdraw his support and his investment if the marriage arrangement between Jidenna and Chelucci was ignored. Chelucci was not just his daughter. She was also the heiress to his  business empire. If Mr. Tokenboar sold his shares and they entered the wrong hands, especially Mr.

Ayuba’s hands, Jidenna’s  family could lose control of Ortega Hotel Group. That was why Jidenna’s parents  wanted him to marry Chelucci. To them, it was not only  marriage, it was protection. But to Jidenna, it was his life. “Mum, you know the kind of person Chelucci is?” Jidenna said. Mrs.

Adoka looked at him, but she did not answer. “I’ve known her since we were children.” he said. “I don’t hate her.    I don’t judge her. But she drinks too much. She smokes. She loves clubbing. That is her  life, and I’m not saying she’s a bad person. But she’s not the kind of woman I want to build a peaceful home  with.

” Mrs. Adoka sighed. “Chelucci can change after marriage.” she said. Jidenna looked at his mother. “Mum, you and I know that is not always true.” he replied. His voice was calm but firm. “I want a stable home.” he said. “I want a wife I can trust. I want children who will grow up with discipline, values, and respect for our family name.

I cannot marry someone only because the company is in danger.” Mrs. Adoka’s face became  serious. “So, what do you want us to do?” she asked. “Watch Mr. Ayuba take everything your father has built?” “No.” Jidenna said. “Ortega Hotel Group will not fail. Not under my watch.” His mother looked at him for a while. “You sound very sure.” she said.

“I’m already looking for  another way.” Jidenna said. “I I just need time. Mrs. Adoka touched his shoulder gently.  I believe in you, she said. But time is not on our side. Then she checked her wristwatch. I have a meeting to attend, she said. I have to leave now. She turned to leave, but after taking a few steps, she stopped and looked  back.

And before I forget, she said. Ebubae, your younger sister is coming back from the university abroad.  There will be a welcome dinner at home and everyone is expected to be  there. Jidenna thought for a moment. Then an idea came to him. This could be the perfect time to introduce Chidera to  his family.

If they met her properly, maybe they would understand why he cared about her so much. Can I invite Chidera? He asked. Mrs. Adoka paused. She was not fully comfortable with it.    Jidenna could see it on her face, but she did not want to start another argument in the hotel. That is fine, she said.

But do not arrive late. After saying that,  she left in a hurry. Jidenna stood there with a small smile. To him, this was a good sign. He wanted his family to know Chidera. He wanted them to see the woman who had slowly entered his heart. A few hours later, Jidenna left the hotel and went straight to Chidera’s studio.

When he arrived, Chidera was inside working on a painting. She looked up when she saw him. Jidenna, she said smiling.  I was not expecting you. I know, he said. I wanted to see you. Chidera  looked at him with quiet happiness. Is everything okay? She asked. Yes, Jidenna said. My younger sister is coming back from school abroad and my family is having a welcome dinner tonight.

That is nice.” Chidera said. “I want you to come with me.” he said. “The full family will be there. I want them to meet you. I want them to know the woman I love.” Chidera’s smile became soft. “You want me to meet your family?” she asked. “Yes.” Jidenna replied. “I’m serious about you.” Chidera felt happy hearing  those words.

She trusted him. “Okay.”    she said. “I will come.” Later that night, Jidenna drove to Chidera’s studio  and picked her up. She wore a simple but beautiful dress. She looked graceful but not like someone trying too hard. When they arrived at the mansion, Chidera looked at the large building before  stepping down from the car.

“Are you okay?” Jidenna asked. “Yes.” she said. “I’m fine.” “Just be yourself.” he said. “That is enough.” They walked into the house together. At first, everything seemed fine. Jidenna introduced Chidera to his mother. “Mom, this is Chidera.” he said. Mrs. Adoka  looked at Chidera and gave a polite smile.

“So, you are the Chidera.” she said. “Yes, ma.”    Chidera replied. “I must say, the arrangement of the artworks at the hotel was very good.” Mrs. Adoka said. “You did well.” “Thank you, ma.”    Chidera said. “I’m glad you liked it.” Ebubae also came forward to greet her. “Good evening.” Ebubae said.

“Good evening.” Chidera replied with a smile. Everything looked peaceful. For a short while,    Chidera felt relaxed. Then dinner was served. They all moved to the dining table. Jidenna  sat beside Chidera hoping the night would go well. But Mr. Ortega, Jidenna’s father, had been quiet since Chidera arrived.

He watched her without saying much. After some time, he finally spoke. “Chidera,  right?” he asked. “Yes, sir.” Chidera replied politely. Mr. Ortega looked at her closely. “What do you do for work?” he asked. Chidera  sat up gently. “I am an artist, sir.” she said. “I’m into painting. A number of the pieces in the hotel are mine.

” The table became  quiet. The problem was not what Chidera said. The problem was what Mr. Ortega heard. In his mind, if Jidenna wanted to marry someone other than Shaluchi, that woman had to come from a family stronger and more  useful than Mr. Tokenbo’s family. But when he heard that Chidera was an artist,    his face changed.

To him, she was not enough. He looked at her again. “Just an artist?”  he asked. Chidera felt the weight of the question. She also noticed the change around the table. The respect that was there a few moments ago seemed to disappear. Still,    she kept calm. “Yes, sir.” she said. “I am an artist.” Jidenna turned to his father.

“Dad.”    he said quietly. But before he could say more, Mrs. Adoka spoke. “I hope whatever you are having with Jidenna is not serious.” she said. “There is already a marriage arrangement between him and Shaluchi, the daughter of Mr. Tokenbo, a very rich investor.” Chidera froze. For a moment, it was as if she did not understand what she had just heard.

Marriage arrangement? Shaluchi? She turned and looked at Jidenna. Her eyes asked the question her mouth could not speak. Jidenna looked  down. That was all the answer she needed. Pain filled Chidera’s face, but she tried to hold herself together. Before she could speak,  Ebube gave a quiet laugh from across the table.

“Imagine.”    Ebube whispered. “Just a painter.” Those words hurt Chidera deeply. Jidenna raised his head at once. “Stop it, all of you.” He said. “You are embarrassing  my guest.” Ebube did not look sorry. “But, brother.” “It is the truth.” She said. Chidera slowly  stood up. Jidenna also stood.

“Chidera, please.” He said. She kept her voice polite,    even though she was hurt. “Thank you for your hospitality.” She said. “But, I would like to leave now.” She turned  and walked away from the table. Jidenna quickly held her hand. “Chidera, please wait.” He said. She gently removed her hand from his.

“I said I want to leave.” She said. Then she walked toward the door. Jidenna turned back to his family. His face  was filled with disappointment. “The least you could have done was be kind.” He said. His mother  looked away like she had nothing more to say. Jidenna hurried after Chidera. By the time he stepped outside, she was already walking toward the gate.

“Chidera,    please wait.” He said. She stopped before she reached the gate. Then turned to him. Her eyes were wet, but her voice  was steady. “I’m angry with you, Jidenna.” She said. “You should have told me there was a marriage arrangement. At least I would have known what I was walking into.

” Jidenna felt  the truth of her words. “I’m sorry.” He said. “I should have told you.” “Yes, you should have.” She said. “Do you know how I felt in there? I walked into that house thinking you wanted your family to meet me because you were  proud of me. But instead, I was made to look like someone standing in the way of a plan I knew nothing about.

Chidera,    please let me explain, Chidalu said. Not now, she replied. I need space. Please don’t  leave like this, he said. I have to, she said. Just then, a car approached the gate. Chidera had already booked an e-hailing ride while walking out of the house. The car stopped. She opened the door and entered.

Chidalu stood there helpless as the car drove away. For a while, he remained by the gate. He felt terrible. He loved Chidera, but he had hurt her by keeping the truth  from her. After some time, he walked back into the house.    The moment he entered the living room, his father spoke angrily. I’m highly disappointed in you, Chidalu, Mr. Ortega said.

How could you get involved with someone who is not in our class? An ordinary painter. Chidalu looked  at his father. Dad, Chidera is not ordinary, he said. She is not useful to this family,    Mr. Ortega said. That is the problem. You know what is at stake, yet you are acting like a child. Chidalu’s face tightened.

I’m not acting like a child, he said. I’ve been looking for another way to save the company without marrying Chidera. His father cut him off. Another way? Mr. Ortega  asked. While Mr. Ayuba is busy moving against us? While Tokenbo is threatening to withdraw his support? You think this is the time to follow your feelings? Chidalu  kept quiet.

Mr. Ortega pointed toward the door. Leave my sight, he said. I’m disappointed in you. Chidalu looked at his father for a moment, then turned and walked outside.    He was almost at his car when his mother called him. Jidenna, Mrs. Adoka said. He stopped. She walked closer to him. I understand how you feel, she said.

I know Chelucci is  not the kind of woman you would naturally want to spend your life with, but she might change. Marriage  changes people. Jidenna was too tired to argue. I have heard you, he said. I will think about it. His mother looked at him with concern. Please think well, she said.

This family needs you. Jidenna did not answer. He entered his car and drove away. As he drove through the night,    his mind stayed on Chidera. He remembered the pain in her eyes. He remembered how happy she had been when he invited her, and how broken she  looked when she left. Guilt sat heavily on his heart, but under that guilt, something stronger  began to rise.

He made a promise to himself right there in the car. He would find a solution  to the company’s problem. He would protect Ortega Hotel Group, but he would not  marry Chelucci. And somehow, he would find a way to make Chidera believe him again. When Jidenna got home that night, he did not go straight  to bed.

His mind was too troubled. He walked into his study, placed his phone on the table, opened his laptop, and began checking the market. The house was quiet,  but his head was full. His idea was simple but serious. If he refused to marry Chelucci, Mr. Tokenbo could withdraw his support from Ortega Hotel Group.

Worse than that,  he could sell his shares. And if those shares entered Mr. Ayuba’s hands,    the balance of power on the board could change completely. Jidenna knew what that meant. Mr. Ayuba was not just trying to invest in the company.  He was trying to gain enough control to influence board decisions, weaken Giddens position as CEO, and push the Ortega family out of power.

So, Giddens needed a stronger option. He needed a strategic investor in the hospitality  industry. Someone with enough financial strength to buy Mr. Tokunbo’s shares if they became available. Someone respected enough  to calm the board and stop Mr. Ayuba from taking control. It was not just about money.

It was about influence, trust,  and power. Giddens searched for a while. He checked business reports,  hospitality rankings, market news, and investor profiles. Then he found the name that kept appearing again and again,    Mr. Ekpoja. He was the CEO of Ekpoja Hotels PLC, one  of the biggest names in the hospitality industry.

His company was bigger, stronger, and more respected than  Ortega Hotel Group. He had the kind of money and influence that could change the direction of any business deal. Giddens leaned back in his chair and thought carefully. If he could convince Mr.  Ekpoja to come in as a major investor, everything could change.

Mr. Ekpoja  could buy Mr. Tokunbo’s shares if Tokunbo decided to sell. That would stop Mr. Ayuba from gaining more power. It would also send a strong message to the board. Ortega’s family would not be standing alone.    The partnership with Ekpoja Hotels could protect the company, strengthen its market position, and give the board more confidence in Giddens  leadership.

The more Giddens thought about it, the more it made sense. He opened a new document and began drafting an email.  He did not write it carelessly. He knew he was not sending a casual message. He was reaching out to one of the most powerful men in the hospitality industry. So, he wrote  like CEO. He introduced himself properly.

He spoke about Ortega Hotel Group, the newly completed hotel, and the company’s growth plan. He explained that Ortega Hotel Group was open to a strategic partnership with a strong hospitality brand that could help expand its market reach. He did not write everything about the family pressure or the marriage arrangement.

That was private, but he made it clear that  the company was seeking a trusted investment partner who understood the hotel business and could help support its  next stage of growth. Jidenna read the email again. Then he edited it. He wanted it to sound serious, but not desperate. Strong, but not proud. While he was still working on the email, his phone rang.

He looked at the screen.  It was Chuluuchi. For a moment, Jidenna just stared at the name. He was tired. He did not want to speak with her, but because their families were close, he picked up. “Hello.” Jidenna said. But the voice he  heard was not Chuluuchi’s voice. “Jidenna, please, it is me, Tara.

”    the lady said. Chuluuchi’s friend. Jidenna sat up. “What’s going on?” he asked. “Please, we need help.”  Tara said. “We are too drunk to drive. Chuluuchi is worse. She can barely speak well.” Jidenna closed  his eyes for a moment. Anger and disappointment filled him. “Where are you?” he asked.

“I will send the address now.” Tara replied. “Please come quickly.” The call ended. A few seconds later, the address came in. Jidenna stared  at it, then stood up. If Chuluuchi had been a stranger, he would not have bothered. But he had known her since childhood.  Even though he did not love her enough for marriage, he still cared about her as a family friend.

He could not leave her stranded  in that condition. Jidenna dressed up and drove out that midnight. As he drove through the quiet road, his mind went back to his mother’s  words. Chiluchi might change after marriage. He did not believe it. A person could change, yes. But marriage was not a magic cure for bad habits.

He knew it would be foolish to build his future on that kind of hope. Soon, he arrived at the club. The music was loud. People  were still going in and out. Jidenna entered and looked around until he found Chiluchi and Tara  in a corner. They looked terrible. Tara was trying to stay awake  while Chiluchi sat weakly, falling asleep.

The sight made Jidenna feel even more tired inside. “Jidenna.” Tara said when she saw him. “Thank God you came.” Chiluchi lifted her eyes slowly. “Jidenna.”    She said smiling carelessly. “You came for me.” Jidenna did not answer her.    He turned to a security officer standing nearby. “Please help me get them to my car.

” he said. With the help of the security officer, Jidenna assisted both ladies outside.    He made sure Chiluchi’s car was parked safely in the club’s parking area before driving them home in his own car. The drive was quiet  except for Chiluchi saying unclear words from the back seat. When they got to Chiluchi’s  house, Jidenna helped them inside and made sure they were safe.

Then he left. On his way back home,    he gave a weak and sad smile. “This is the person my mother said might change after marriage.” he said quietly to himself. Then he picked up his phone and dialed Chidera’s number. It rang,    but she did not answer. He called again. Still, she did not pick up.

The third time he called, it did not go through. Jidenna  guessed that she had switched off her phone. Guilt filled his heart. He remembered the pain on her face when she found out about the marriage arrangement.    He knew he should have told her earlier. He had hurt her, even though he never meant to.

When he got home, he returned to his study. The email to Mr. Okocha was still open on his laptop. Jidenna sat down and continued working on it. He adjusted the proposal carefully and made sure the message was clear. He explained  the business opportunity, the value of Ortega Hotel Group, and why a partnership could benefit both companies.

When he was finally satisfied, he sent it. For a moment, he just sat  there, staring at the screen. He did not know if Mr. Okocha would reply. He did not know if the plan would work, but it was the best option he had. After that,    he picked up his phone again and sent Chidera a message. Chidera, please,    I want to see you and explain everything properly.

I’m sorry for how you found out. I promise there will be no more surprises. He waited. There was no reply. But, he saw that the message had been delivered. Jidenna  placed the phone on the table and leaned back in his chair. All he could do now was  hope that Chidera would give him a chance to explain. What Jidenna did not know was that the email he had just sent had placed him on a path  he did not fully understand.

A path that would soon lead to a truth no one  saw coming. A truth that would leave him, his family, and everyone around them speechless. A few days later, the pressure on Jidenna had increased. His family was still pushing him to marry Chuluche. Chidera was still upset with him, and even though he had been going to her studio to  check on her, she kept avoiding him.

At the same time, he still had to run Ortega Hotel Group, attend meetings, and make sure the new hotel was ready for its opening.    Every part of his life seemed to be pulling him in a different direction. One evening,    just as he was about to close from work, his phone beeped. It was a message from Chidera.

Can we meet? I think we should talk. Jidenna stared at the message for a moment, then relief entered his heart. He quickly packed his things, left his office, and drove to her art studio. When he arrived, Chidera was inside. She looked calmer than before, but he could still see the hurt in her eyes. Thank you for agreeing to see me, Jidenna said.

I asked you to come, Chidera replied.  So, let us talk. They sat across from each other. For a moment,  Jidenna did not know where to begin. Then he took a slow breath. Chidera, I’m sorry, he said. I should have told you about Chelucci and the marriage arrangement before taking you to my  family house.

Yes, you should have, Chidera said. Finding out that way was painful. I know,    Jidenna replied. And I take the blame for that. Chidera stayed  quiet, so he continued. Jidenna explained everything. He told her about the arrangement between his family and Mr. Tokenbo’s family. He told her how  Mr.

Tokenbo’s support was important to Ortega Hotel Group. He explained that Mr. Ayuba had been quietly  gaining influence by buying shares from some shareholders. He also told  her that if Mr. Tokenbo sold his shares to Mr. Ayuba, his family could lose control of the company. Chidera listened without cutting him off.

So, your family wants you to marry Chulucci because of the company.” She said. “Yes.” Chidenma replied. “But, I do not want that life. I do not love Chulucci in that  way. As a childhood friend, yes, but not for marriage. I have known her since childhood,  but she is not the woman I want to build a home with.

” Chidera looked at him. “And what are you doing about the company problem?” She asked. “I’m trying to find another way.” Chidenma said. “I have reached out to a powerful investor  in the hospitality industry. If he agrees to partner with Ortega Hotel Group, he could buy Mr. Token Boar’s shares if Token Boar decides to sell.

That would stop Mr. Ayuba from gaining control.” Chidera became quiet. Now, everything made more sense. She had been hurt because she thought Chidenma had brought her into a situation he did not  respect enough to explain. But, now she understood that the matter was bigger than she had first thought. Still, the pain did not disappear  at once.

“I have thought about what happened.” Chidera said. “I realized I did not give you a chance to explain yourself properly. That was why I sent you the message.” Chidenma looked at her with hope in his  eyes. “Now that I have heard everything, it makes more sense.” Chidera continued. “But, you should have told me earlier.

I did not like the way I found out.” “You are right.”    Chidenma said. “I’m sorry.” “Apology accepted.” Chidera said. Chidenma felt a heavy weight leave his heart. “But, please.”    Chidera added. “Do not ever hide something like that from me again.” “I promise.” Chidenma said. “No more secrets.

” Chidera looked at  him carefully. “And for now, I do not want to attend any of your family gatherings.” She said.    “Not until things become more stable. I think we should build our relationship quietly first. Jidenna understood. That is fair,    he said. I will not force you. I also hope the investor you reached out to gives you a positive response, Chidera said.

I hope so, too, Jidenna replied. For the first time in days, the  space between them felt peaceful again. Jidenna moved closer, and Chidera allowed him to hold her hand. I missed you, he said. I missed  you, too, she replied. They held each other’s hands quietly. It was clear that they loved each other deeply,  but behind them, something was already beginning.

Something neither of them knew about. Back at home, Ebube called Chulucci. Chulucci picked up after a few rings. Ebube, what is it? Chulucci asked. There is something you need to know, Ebube said. Chulucci became more alert.    What happened? She asked. It is about Jidenna, Ebube said. He brought a girl to the house the other  day.

Chulucci was quiet for a second. What girl? She asked. An ordinary painter, Ebube replied. Her name is Chidera. He brought her to dinner like someone he was serious about. Chulucci’s voice  changed. What do you mean by serious? She asked. I mean serious,  Ebube said. When she left, he ran after her.

He was defending her in front of everyone.    It was embarrassing. Chulucci became furious. So, Jidenna is now bringing another woman to his family house? She asked. That is what happened, Ebube  said. And if care is not taken, he may refuse to marry you. Chulucci breathed heavily over the phone.

“Find out who she is.” Chiluchi said.    “Find out where I can see her.” “Are you sure?” Ebube asked. “Yes.”    Chiluchi said. “I need to show her who she is dealing with.” Ebube agreed. Soon, she found Chidera’s information and sent Chiluchi the address of her art studio. One day, Chidera was painting quietly in her studio when she heard the sharp sound of heels against the floor.

She did not  look up immediately. “Welcome to Dera’s art studio.” Chidera said calmly.  “How may I help you?” The voice that answered was cold. “Keep your help to yourself.” the woman said.    “You need it more than I do.” Chidera slowly looked up. The woman standing in front of her was well-dressed, bold, and proud.

From the way she looked at her, Chidera immediately suspected who she was. Chiluchi walked closer and touched one of the canvases. The paint had not completely dried. She smiled mockingly. “I must say, your artwork is good.” Chiluchi said. “It shows that you know how to imagine things and bring them to life on canvas.

” Chidera  said nothing. Chiluchi’s smile disappeared. “But sadly, the real world is not like your paintings.” Chiluchi continued. “No matter how much you imagine it, you and Jidenna can never work.” Chidera picked up her brush again and continued  painting. Chiluchi looked annoyed. “Jidenna is my man.” Chiluchi said.

“My man only.” Chidera  kept her face calm even though the words hurt her. Chiluchi moved closer. “You are fooling yourself if you think love is enough to enter our world.”    Chiluchi said. “Jidenna and I come from the same class. Our families have history.” “You’re only a  painter with a dream that is too big for you.

Chidera slowly placed her brush down  and looked at Cheluchi. If you are done, you may leave, Chidera said. Cheluchi  stared at her in anger. You should be the one leaving, Cheluchi said. Leave Chidera alone before you embarrass yourself. Chidera said nothing. Cheluchi adjusted her bag and turned toward the door.

Remember what I  said, Cheluchi said. Some doors are not opened by love. They’re opened by class. After saying that, she walked out proudly. Chidera remained still for a moment. Then she  released a deep sigh and looked at the painting in front of her. She tried to continue painting, but Cheluchi’s words stayed in her mind.

Deep inside, she hoped  Chidera would find a way to fix the company problem, but she did not know that something bigger  was coming. Something she was not prepared for. Something that would force her to make decisions she never thought she would have to make. Finally, the hotel was fully set. After many weeks of planning, pressure, and difficult decisions, the new Ortega Hotel was ready for its grand opening.

The artworks had been arranged in the important parts of the hotel. The rooms were  ready. The reception area looked rich and beautiful. Everything now looked  like a place that could impress important guests. The Ortega family had already started preparing  for the big event. That morning, while preparations were still going  on, Chidera walked past one of the sitting areas in the mansion and overheard his father speaking on the phone.

Mr. Tokenbo, we will be honored to have you at the grand opening today,  Mr. Ortega said. And later in the evening, we are also having a private family celebration here at the mansion. I expect you and your family  to be there. Chidera stopped for a moment. He did not want to listen to his father’s private call, but what he heard gave him an idea.

Mr. Token Bohr would be coming to the grand opening and also to the private celebration.  Then Jadana thought about Mr. Okoja. Mr. Okoja had not replied to his email  yet. Jadana had been hoping to speak with him about a possible partnership that could help protect  Ortega Hotel Group from Mr. Ayuba’s plans.

The grand opening would  be too busy. There would be media, guests, speeches, executives, board members, and business partners, but the private celebration would be smaller and more relaxed. It could be a better chance to speak with Mr. Okoja directly. So, Jadana quickly sent another email to Mr. Okoja.

This time, he invited him to the private celebration at the Ortega mansion. He explained that he would be honored to discuss a possible partnership with him in person. After sending the email, Jadana sat back for a moment. A heavy worry entered his heart.    If Mr.

Token Bohr would be attending the private celebration, then Chalucci would most likely be there, too. Jadana  knew what that meant. At the grand opening, he could avoid drama by staying  busy. But the private celebration would be different. There would be fewer people, and Chalucci would have more room to cause a scene. To avoid feeling trapped by the pressure, Jadana made a bold decision.

He decided to invite Chidera to the house party. He knew bringing  her there might cause more drama, but he also believed her presence would give him strength. He wanted to show everyone that he was serious about her. Or so he thought. That morning, Jadana went to Chidera’s art studio.

When Chidera saw him, she was surprised.  “Jadana, what are you doing here this early?” she asked. “I thought today would be very busy for you.” “It is busy,” Jidenna said, “but I needed to see you first.” Chidera  looked at him closely. She could see that something was troubling him. “Is everything okay?” she asked. “Yes,”    Jidenna replied.

“The grand opening is today. Later tonight there will be a private celebration at the mansion. My family will be there and some close guests  will also attend.” Chidera’s face changed a little. She already understood where the conversation was going.  “Jidenna,” she said softly. “Please hear me first,”    Jidenna said.

Chidera became quiet. “I want you to come with me,” Jidenna said. Chidera looked away for a moment. The last time she went to his family house, she left with a broken heart. She had been embarrassed, called an ordinary painter,    and made to feel like she had no value. Since that night, she had told herself that she would stay away from his family gatherings for a while.

“I don’t want drama, Jidenna,” Chidera said. “The last dinner was  enough.” “I know,” Jidenna said. “And I’m sorry for that. I should have protected you better. I should have told you everything before taking you there.” Chidera said nothing.    “But tonight I don’t want to hide you,” Jidenna continued.

“I don’t want them to think I’m unsure about you. I want you beside me.” Chidera looked at him. He looked tired. His face carried  pressure. She understood that being CEO had not been easy for him, especially with everything happening in his family and company.  “I promise you, no matter what happens, I will stand by you,” Jidenna said.

Chidera stayed quiet for a while. “I’m not coming there to fight anyone,” she said. “I know,” Jidenna replied. “And if they insult me again, I will not beg anyone to accept me.” Chidera said. “You will not have to.” Jidenna replied. Chidera looked  at him for a few seconds. Then she finally agreed. “Okay.” She said. “I will come.

” Relief showed on Jidenna’s  face. “Thank you, Chidera.” He said. “I promise I will not leave you alone there.” Later that morning, the grand opening began. The hotel was full of life. The media came with cameras. Important guests arrived  in expensive cars. Business partners, executives, board members, and other  top people in the hospitality world came to witness the opening of the new hotel.

Jidenna tried his best to stay  focused. He gave his speech. He welcomed guests. He spoke with several board members and tried to strengthen their trust in him. He knew that very soon the board vote could decide his future as CEO.  So, he smiled when he needed to smile. He spoke with confidence.

He acted like a man who was in control. But deep inside, he knew the real battle had not started.  Soon, the grand opening came to an end. As the day grew darker, it was time for the private celebration at the Ortega mansion. Since Jidenna was needed at home, he sent his driver to pick Chidera up from her studio.

A short while later, the private party began. At first, everything seemed calm. Jidenna sat on one of the sofas in the living room. Across from him were his younger sister, Ebube  and Chieluchi. Chieluchi was already drinking heavily from the wine served on the table. Ebube tried to control how much she drank, but Chieluchi refused to listen.

“Chieluchi, slow  down.” Ebube said. “The night has barely started.” “Please leave me.” Chidalu said. “Is it not a celebration?” Ebube  looked uncomfortable, but Chidalu only poured more wine into her glass. Chidinma watched from where he sat,  and the sight irritated him. This was the same woman his parents wanted him to marry.

The same woman they believed would suddenly change after marriage. Then, his phone rang. It was Chidera. “Chidinma, I have arrived.”    Chidera said. Chidinma stood up at once. “Don’t move.” he said. “I’m coming to get you from the car. We will walk in together.” “Okay.” Chidera replied.  Hearing that made her feel a little calmer.

She knew what she was about to face in that  house, so she prepared her heart. Chidinma went outside. When he reached the car,  he opened the door for her and held her hand as she stepped out. Chidera looked at him. “I’m ready.”    she said. “I’m with you.” Chidinma replied. Then they walked toward the house together.

As they stepped into the living room, Mr. Ortega and Mrs. Adoka were coming down from the stairs. Chidinma and Chidera were the first people Mr. Ortega saw. Immediately,  his face changed. Chidinma noticed it, but he kept walking. “Chidinma, what do you think you are doing?”    Mr. Ortega asked.

Chidinma stopped, but stayed calm. “Do you know Mr. Tokenbo is here?” Mr. Ortega continued. “How can you bring this girl here after everything we have already told you?” “I am not trying to do anything bad, sir.” Chidinma said. He held Chidera’s hand tighter, then led her to a seat and sat  beside her.

But Mr. Ortega was not done. “You are being selfish.” Mr. Ortega  said. “You are allowing emotions to control your judgement.” Jidenna  looked at his father. “This is my choice,” he said. “I cannot build a future with someone I do not trust.” Then he looked toward Chelucci, who was already tipsy.

“Look at the person you want me to marry,” Jidenna  said. “Dad, be honest with me. As a father, can you truly watch your only son marry the wrong person?” Mr. Ortega’s eyes hardened. “If it saves this company, then it is worth  it,” Mr. Ortega said. “I have spent years building this legacy, and I will not watch you destroy it because of feelings.

” Mrs. Adoka stepped in. “Chelucci might change after marriage,”  she said. Jidenna turned to his mother. “Mom, what are the chances of that?” he asked. Mrs. Adoka looked at Chidera coldly.  “Whatever the chances are, it is still better than choosing someone whose family cannot be of any importance to  us,” she said.

“An ordinary painter.” Chidera  tightened her grip on Jidenna’s hand. Jidenna did not let go. “Brother, listen to Mom,”    Ebubae said. Jidenna turned to her. “This is not your business,” he said. Chelucci was already angry, but because she was tipsy,  her words did not come out clearly at first.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tokenbo and his wife heard the raised voices from another part of the house. His wife was the first  to notice it. “Tokenbo, listen,” Mrs. Tokenbo said. “Are they arguing?” Mr. Tokenbo listened for a moment. They had not heard everything, but they heard enough to know the argument was about Jidenna, Chelucci, and another woman.

They hurried into the living room. The moment they entered, everywhere became quiet. Mr. Tokenbo looked at Jidenna. Jidenna was still holding Chidera’s hand. Mr. Token Bohr understood immediately. “Are you trying to break the agreement between our families?” Mr. Token  Bohr asked. Mr. Ortega quickly moved toward him.

“No, Token Bohr. It is not like  that.” Mr. Ortega said. “This is exactly what we were trying to correct.” But Chidimma cut in. “I did not sign any agreement with anybody.” Chidimma said. “And I’m not signing away my happiness to marry someone who is badly behaved and  spoiled.” The room became tense. Mr.

Token Bohr’s face changed.    “Are you questioning how I raised my daughter?” Mr. Token Bohr asked. Chidimma did not back  down. “Everyone in this house knows the truth.” Chidimma said. “Your daughter drinks heavily, smokes,  and behaves carelessly. It is obvious.” Mr. Token Bohr became furious.

His wife held his arm and looked at the Ortega family with anger. “Token Bohr, let us leave.” Mrs. Token Bohr  said. “We do not have to beg anyone to accept our daughter after insulting her in our presence.” Mr. Token Bohr looked at  Mr. Ortega. “Since your son has chosen to insult my family, I am done.

” Mr. Token Bohr said. “I am selling my shares and withdrawing every support I have given Ortega Hotel Group.” Mr. Ortega’s face changed at once. “Token Bohr, please    do not take it that far.” Mr. Ortega said. “It is already done.” Mr. Token Bohr replied. After saying that, he left angrily with his wife.

The moment they left,  the anger in Mr. Ortega and Mrs. Adoka turned toward Chidimma. “What happens now?” Mr. Ortega  asked. “Once Mr. Ayuba gets his hands on those shares, we are finished. Do you understand what you have done? You have ruined everything, Chidimma.” Mrs. Adoka said. “Everything.

” Their words  filled the room. Jidenna stood his ground, but Chidera could see the sadness on his face. Mrs. Adoka then turned to Chidera. “You should have stayed away,” she said.  “We already told you that Jidenna had someone he was supposed to marry. Now look at what you have caused.” “None of this is her fault,” Jidenna said at once.

Ebube looked at Chidera with anger.    “What have you done to my brother?” Ebube asked. “Since he met you, he has been making questionable decisions.” Chidera said nothing. Jidenna still held her hand, but his face showed worry. He did not  regret refusing to marry Chuluci.

What hurt him was that he had not found another way to protect the company  quickly enough. Chidera saw it. She saw how much he was carrying. She also saw the sacrifice  he had just made for her. Then suddenly, Jidenna’s phone rang. It was an unknown number. He stood  up and looked at Chidera. “Please, do not leave,” he said.

“I won’t,”  Chidera replied. Jidenna walked toward the door and picked up the call. “Hello,” Jidenna said. “Good evening.  Am I speaking with Jidenna Ortega?” The voice on the other end asked. Jidenna stood straighter. “Yes, sir. This is Jidenna,”    he said. “This is Akoja,” the man said.

“I saw your invitation. I want to know if the private celebration is already going on. I would like to come and discuss your proposal in person.” Relief entered Jidenna’s heart. “Yes, sir,” Jidenna said quickly. “The celebration is already on. Please follow the address in the email. You will be welcomed.” “Very well.  I’m on my way,” Mr.

Akoja said. The call ended. Jidenna closed his eyes for a  brief moment. For the first time that night, he felt a small sign of hope. While Jidenna was outside, Chidera remained seated in the living room. Several eyes kept turning toward her. She knew what those looks meant. No one wanted her there. But she had promised Jidenna she  would stay, no no matter what they said.

Then Chulucci stood and walked toward her. “Chidera, the artist,” Chulucci said  with a mocking smile. Chidera looked up slowly, but said nothing. “You surely know how to use your brush well,” Chulucci said. Chidera  kept quiet. “But you can never use your brush to draw my man away from me,” Chulucci continued. “You are just a painter.

Let me remind you again. Our class is different.” Chidera  wanted to speak, but she held herself back. She was not there for Chulucci. She was there for Jidenna. Soon, Jidenna returned and saw Chulucci standing close to Chidera. “Leave her alone,” Jidenna said firmly. Chulucci turned to him with anger in  her eyes.

But before she could answer, the security called through the intercom. Jidenna was  closest to it, so he answered. “Sir, someone is at the gate requesting entry,” the security man said. “Who is it?”    Jidenna asked. “He said he is Mr. Okoja,” the security man replied. Jidenna felt relief again. “Grant him access,” Jidenna said quickly.

A few moments later, the front door opened. Two men in black suits stood on both sides of the entrance as Mr. Okoja stepped into the house.    They were Mr. Okoja’s bodyguards. The room became silent. Mr. Ortega and Mrs. Adoka were shocked  to see him. Mr. Okoja was a powerful name in the hospitality industry.

He was the kind of man many hotel owners respected from a distance. Ortega Hotel Group itself had followed some of his business ideas over the years. Jidenna quickly  stood and walked toward him. “Good evening, sir. Thank you so much for coming.” Jidenna said. But Mr. Okoja’s attention was not fully on him.

His eyes moved past Jidenna and stopped on the young woman sitting quietly behind him. Chidera’s head was lowered. She was still trying to hold herself together after everything she had endured. Mr. Okoja  looked at her closely. Then his voice became softer. “Chidera, what are you doing here?” Mr. Okoja asked. Chidera looked up immediately when she heard the voice.

Her eyes opened wide in shock. “Dad?” Chidera said. At that moment, the whole house went quiet. Everyone had just  heard the artist call the CEO of Okoja Hotels “Dad”. Mr. Ortega stood still. Mrs. Adoka’s face changed.  Ebube could not speak. Chulucci looked lost and confused. Even Jidenna was stunned. The surname had crossed his mind before, but he had never truly connected Chidera to Mr. Okoja.

Her simple life and small  studio had made him believe it was only a coincidence. Now, there was no doubt. Jidenna looked at Mr. Okoja. “Sir, Chidera is your daughter?” Jidenna asked. Mr. Okoja released a heavy breath. “Yes.” Mr. Okoja said. “She is my daughter.” The silence became even deeper. Mr. Okoja looked at Chidera again.

“I’ve been searching for you.”    Mr. Okoja said. Chidera’s eyes became wet. “You said I was no longer your daughter.”    Chidera replied. Mr. Okoja’s face showed pain. “I said it in anger.” he said,    “and I’ve regretted it every day.” No one at the table said a word. Slowly, the truth began to come  out.

Chidera had loved art since she was little. She was brilliant in school. Her father had already planned her life for her. She was his only child, and he wanted her to take over a Koga Hotels one day. He had built his empire with the hope that his daughter would continue his legacy. But Chidera wanted  a different life. After university, she told her father that she did not want to become the CEO of his company.

She wanted to follow her passion and build a life around art. Mr. Koga did not accept  it. He tried to force her to change her mind. He cut her allowance and threatened to disown her if she refused to follow the path he had chosen. But Chidera left home anyway. She moved to another part of the city and started building her art career with the little she had.

She never used her father’s name to open doors. She never introduced herself as Mr.  Koga’s daughter. To her, if her father could reject her because she chose art, then she would prove that she could stand on her own.    That was why she lived simply. That was why her studio was small. That was why people only knew her as Chidera, the artist.

But Mr. Koga  had changed. He had searched for her, not because he wanted to force her back into the company, but because he wanted his daughter  back. He had finally realized that Chidera was an adult, and she had the right to choose her own life. “I came here tonight to discuss business,” Mr.

Koga said, “I did not know I would find my daughter here.” Chidera wiped her tears and looked away. “I still wish you loved the hotel business the way I do,” Mr. Koga continued,  “but I have missed you more than I have missed any dream I had for you. I only want you to know that I support you now. Chidera did not  answer.

Her heart was too full. Mr. Ortega looked at her in shock. Only a short while ago, he had seen her as someone with no value to his family.    Now he realized she was the daughter of one of the biggest names in the hospitality business. Mrs. Adoka and Ebube looked at each other. Regret slowly covered their faces.

Jidenna looked  at Chidera in silence. He had always felt that there was something she was keeping inside, but he had never forced her to speak.  He loved her and he had hoped that one day she would trust him enough to tell him. Now that he knew the truth, he was not  angry. He understood her.

He understood what it felt like when family pressure tried to choose your life for you. Jidenna gently touched her shoulder. “It is fine.” he said. “I understand.” Chidera looked at him with tears in her eyes. “I am sorry I did not tell you.” Chidera said. “You do not  have to apologize.” Jidenna said.

“I understand why you kept it to yourself.” Mr. Ekoja stood quietly  for a moment. The emotions of the night were too much for him. He had come for business, but he had found something more important. He looked at Chidera one last time. “I will not force you.” Mr. Ekoja said. “You are an adult  now, but I hope you come home soon, even if it is only to talk.

” Chidera looked at him, but she still could not speak. After that, Mr. Ekoja turned and left the house with his bodyguards. The room stayed silent even after he left. No one knew what to say. Later that night, Chidera sat alone in her apartment thinking about everything that had happened. She thought about Jidenna.

She thought about how he had stood by her  in public, even when it almost cost him his family’s legacy. She thought about his pain,  his courage, and the way he refused to let go of her hand when everyone turned  against her. That night, Chidera knew his love was real, and after everything she had seen, she made a decision.

A decision that would change everything. A decision that would surprise her father, shock Jidenna’s family, and turn the whole story in a direction none of them were ready for. The next day, Chidera returned to her father’s mansion. When the cab stopped in front  of the gate, she stayed inside for a moment and looked at the house.

This was the home she had left after a  painful disagreement with her father. For a short while, she felt nervous. Then she took a deep breath,  stepped down from the cab, and walked toward the gate. The security man saw her and froze in surprise. “Miss Chidera?” the security man said. Chidera gave him a small smile. “Good morning,” she said.

The security man quickly opened  the gate. “Welcome, ma,” he said. “Welcome back.” Those words touched Chidera deeply, but she kept walking.  As she entered the house, her father, Mr. Okoja, was about to step  out. His personal assistant stood beside him, holding a file and speaking about his schedule.

The moment Mr. Okoja saw Chidera, he stopped. For a few seconds, he could not speak. Chidera also stood still,  looking at him. Then she walked quickly toward him and hugged him tightly. Mr. Okoja held her back,  and it was clear that both father and daughter had missed each other. Tears filled  Chidera’s eyes.

“Dad, do you have time to talk?” she asked. Mr. Okoja looked at her with emotion in his eyes.    He turned to his personal assistant immediately. “Cancel all my appointments today.” Mr. Okoja said. The personal assistant  looked surprised. “Sir, you have important meetings.” the personal assistant said.

“Cancel them.”    Mr. Okoja said. “Nothing is more important than my daughter.” Then he held Chidera’s hand. “Even if I had no time.” he said.    “I would create all the time in the world for you.” “You are worth it.” Chidera lowered her face as more tears came to her eyes. Mr.

Okoja led her into the sitting room and they sat beside each other. For a moment, the  room was quiet. Then Chidera looked at him. “Dad.” “I’m ready to come back home.”  [clears throat]  she said. Mr. Okoja stared at her. “I’m ready to take my  place in the company.” Chidera continued. “I’m ready to learn how to lead Okoja Hotels.

” Mr. Okoja was shocked. Those were the words he had wanted to hear for a long time, but he did not want to rush his joy. “Chidera, are you sure?” he asked. “Yes, Dad.” she  replied. Mr. Okoja looked at her carefully. “Why now?”  he asked. “What changed your mind?” Chidera took a slow breath. “Chidena.” she said.

Mr. Okoja became quiet. “Last night Chidena showed me what sacrifice means.” Chidera said. “He stood by me in front of his family.” “He defended me when they insulted me.” “Even when it almost cost him his family’s company.” Mr. Okoja listened  closely. “He loves art, but he still carries his business responsibility.

” Chidera continued. “Seeing him made me understand that I do not have to abandon  art to be part of your company.” “I can love painting and still learn to lead a Koja Hotels. Mr. Koja’s  face softened. I was wrong to think I had to choose only one life, Chidera said. I can still be an artist and I can still help protect the legacy you  built.

Mr. Koja reached for her hand. My daughter,    he said softly. You have grown. Chidera held his hand. There is something else, Dad, she said. What is it?    Mr. Koja asked. Ortega Hotel Group is in trouble, Chidera said. Mr. Tokenbo wants to sell his shares because of what happened last night. If Mr.

Ayuba buys them, Chidena’s family may lose control of the company. Mr. Koja’s face became serious. Chidera continued. Chidena has been trying to save the company without marrying Chelucci, she said. Please, Dad,    I want the Koja Hotels to buy Mr. Tokenbo’s shares before Mr. Ayuba gets them. Mr. Koja  looked at her. And after that, he asked.

I want you to support Chidena during the board vote,    Chidera said. His family should not lose their company because he chose to do what was right. Mr. Koja stayed  silent for a moment. You truly love him, he said. I do, Chidera replied.  And he loves me, too. Mr.

Koja looked at his daughter with pride. Are you truly ready for this?  He asked. Business is not always gentle. Chidera looked at him with confidence. Dad, you trained me all my life to lead, she said.    You taught me how to think, how to listen, and how to make hard decisions. Now it is time for me to use what you taught me.

Mr. Koja  smiled with tears in his eyes. I’m proud of you, he said. Chidera  smiled, too. I missed you, Dad. She said. I missed you, too. Mr. Okocha replied. Then his face became serious again. Now, he said. Let us help the man who stood by my daughter. Immediately, Mr. Okocha started making arrangements.

He called his legal team and his finance team. He told them to move fast and begin talks to buy Mr. Tokenbo’s shares before Mr. Ayuba could get them. Because Mr. Okocha was a powerful  man in the hospitality business, things moved quickly. Through Okocha Hotels, he bought Mr. Tokenbo’s shares before Mr. Ayuba could take them. When the board vote  came, everything changed.

Jidenna entered the meeting knowing his position as CEO was at risk. Mr. Ayuba looked confident as if he believed the company was almost in his hands.    But then the board members heard the news. Okocha Hotels had bought Mr. Tokenbo’s shares. And Okocha Hotels was supporting Jidenna. The room became  tense.

Some board members who had been supporting Mr. Ayuba quickly changed sides. They knew that with Okocha Hotels now standing with Jidenna,  the power had shifted. When the votes were counted, Jidenna remained CEO of Ortega Hotel  Group. Mr. Ayuba’s plan failed. Jidenna’s family was shocked.

The same woman they had called ordinary    was the person who helped save their company. A few days later, the Ortega family invited Chidera to dinner. This time, everything was different.  When Chidera entered the house with Jidenna, no one looked down on her. No one insulted her. No one made her feel unwanted.

Mrs. Adoka welcomed her politely. Chidera,  thank you for coming. Mrs. Adoka said. Good evening, Ma. Chidera replied.  Mr. Ortega also came forward. Good evening, Chidera. He said. Good evening, sir. Chidera replied. Ebube stood quietly beside her mother. She looked ashamed. They all sat in the living room.

After a short silence, Mr. Ortega spoke. Chidera, we owe you an apology.    He said. Chidera looked at him calmly. I judged you without knowing you. Mr. Ortega continued. I called you ordinary because I only saw what I wanted to see. I was wrong. Mrs. Adoka lowered her eyes.    I’m sorry, too. She said.

I allowed fear to control me. I was afraid of losing the company and I treated  you unfairly. Ebube stepped forward. I’m sorry. Ebube said.    I insulted you and called you just a painter. I should not have done that. Chidera looked at all of them. Their words sounded honest. I was hurt. Chidera said.

I won’t pretend I was not, but I understand that fear can make people do wrong things. The room was quiet. I forgive you. She said. Mrs. Adoka  looked relieved. Thank you. She said. Mr. Ortega also looked grateful. Thank you, Chidera.  He said. Chidera turned to Jadana. I did not help because I wanted  to prove anything. She said.

I helped because I love Jadana deeply. He stood by me when it was not easy and I could not watch him lose everything. Jadana smiled. I love you, too. He said. For the first time, peace  entered the Ortega mansion. Slowly, both families began to come together. Mr. Okoja and Mr. Ortega also started building a better business relationship.

This time, it was not based on pressure or forced marriage. It was based  on respect and trust. Chidera began learning her place in Acoja Hotels while still holding on to her love for art. Jidenna continued leading Ortega  Hotel Group with strength, knowing that love had not destroyed him.

Instead,  it had helped him become braver. In the end, everyone learned a lesson they would never  forget. A person’s value is not always seen from their clothes, job, or background. Sometimes, the person people call ordinary is the same person who can change everything. They learned that love, sacrifice, and good  character matter more than pride and class.

This story teaches us that we should never judge people by  what we see on the outside. Chidera was called poor, ordinary, and not good  enough. But the same people who looked down on her later found out that she carried more value than they ever imagined. Her story reminds us that a person’s worth is not in their clothes, their job, or the size of their pocket.

True value is found in the heart, in good character, and in the way a person treats others. Jidenna also showed us that real love is not only about sweet words. Real love stands firm when things become  hard. It protects, it sacrifices, and it chooses what is right, even when the price  is heavy.
